Ulster EDI Officer seeks camogie role models/ambassadors

6th February 2025

From the Ulster Camogie EDI Officer Claire Thompson

We are reaching out to request your support in sending a message to your executive, clubs and all County Senior teams, encouraging women to step forward, step up, and speak out on issues that affect them. We are specifically looking for role models/ ambassadors for each of the 9 protected characteristics, which are:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender Reassignment
  • Marriage and Civil Partnership
  • Pregnancy and Maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or Belief
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Sex (Gender)

However, we also want ambassadors to speak up about mental health, addiction and all other issues that affect our society. Our aim is to create a more inclusive and supportive environment within the sport, and we believe that strong, diverse representation is key to achieving this goal. If you could kindly circulate this request to the teams, it would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about these causes and are willing to be ambassadors and advocates for positive change within our community. If you are a Camogie club supporter who continues to contribute beyond your playing years, or if you live with a disability, we invite you to share your experiences.

Tell us about your role within the club and the positive impact of volunteering, particularly within the Camogie environment. We’d love to hear about both the rewards and the challenges you’ve encountered.

If you are a player from a non-traditional background, a member of an ethnic minority group, or have been a teammate navigating the unique experiences of pregnancy as an athlete and your return to your support, or your a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and want to represent and encourage others, we encourage you to share your story. Reflecting on both the challenges and benefits of being part of a Camogie team is invaluable, as it helps highlight the diverse perspectives within our community.

These are just a few examples, and we welcome all voices to come forward and share their experiencesThank you for your time and support, and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
