Juniors travel to Down in round 3

8th June 2022

The Antrim Junior team are back in Glen Dimplex Premier Junior All Ireland Championship action on Saturday when they travel to Atticall GAC to take on neighbours, Down.

With five teams in the group, Antrim were on a bye in the last round of fixtures but they won’t have minded too much as they are still riding high off an excellent opening round win away to Roscommon. Dervla Cosgrove was the star on the day with 3-6 of Antrim’s tally in a 3-11 to 0-8 win. Ellen Leech (0-2), Brogan Abram, Clare Kearney and Anna McNeill were the others who got their names on the scoresheet.

Down have also only played one game as they had the first round of matches off. However, things didn’t go so well for them as they lost to Ulster rivals, Armagh by a scoreline of 2-25 to 0-7.

With the top two teams in this group progressing to the semi-finals, Antrim will know that a win here could put them just one win away from a place in the last four with games against Armagh and Limerick still to come. Armagh have set the pace so far with two wins from two games but Limerick have lost both their games including a seven-point loss to Roscommon who Antrim have already recorded a win against so hopes will be high that this team can progress beyond the group stage.

There’s a good balance in this team with some experienced players mixing with some graduates of recent minor teams. All told it is an excellent reflection of where Antrim Camogie is at the moment and we are hopeful that this team can push for honours this season.

With this game being an Ulster derby we are hopeful that there will be a good Saffron support to cheer the team on.
