We are all used to seeing holes appearing randomly in the news these days, bringing disruption to roads and buildings, but the holes appearing in Carnlough are of a special type...foundations for St. John's Camogie club's catch nets that will be installed as part of the Club's new build project 'Maltina Park' and work on the pitch itself is due to start imminently.
This project, Maltina Park, is a joint effort between St John’s Camogie Club, Carnlough and Carnlough Swifts FC, jointly leasing the ground at Stoneyhill from the Diocese, who are very supportive of the plans and vision. We caught up with Club Chairperson, Eamon McFadden, "Both clubs are fully committed to this redevelopment, which is being coordinated by the Stoneyhill Committee—a group made up of representatives from both clubs along with independent members."

"We are so privileged and honoured to have the support of Brendan Rodgers and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, along with a fantastic team of partners helping us deliver the work, including NK Fencing, Hanna & Hutchinson Consulting Engineers, Vision Design Architecture, Thomas Bell from Bell Rolston Planning Consultants, Haffey Sports Grounds, and ergonomics specialist Paul Campbell."
"What’s happening now represents Phase 1 of a wider, multi-phase plan for Maltina Park, and we’re excited about the progress so far."

As St. John's unique project unfolds over the coming months, we hope to be able to share their journey for all to see.

The project has also been enjoying some celebrity support as Celtic's current manager, Brendan Rodgers and wife Charlotte, have been on site to gauge progress and help with some PR exposure. Here's a link to the St. John's Facebook post Brendan Rodgers visits Maltina Park development
And if you are wondering about the link between Brendan and Maltina Park, here's a great read from St. John's again Maltina Park and Brendan Rodgers
We wish everyone associated with the project the very best of luck and good progress over the building term and look forward to seeing a match on the new pitch on a summer's evening.
